Make sure that your data is safe from unauthorized users by saving it on an encrypted partition. The tool creates its own drive and encrypts, automatically protecting any data that is being moved or created on that partition. It supports several encryption algorithms such as SHA-512, MD5, Tiger.

FreeOTFE is a very powerful data protection program. The program works by creating a '.VOL' file on your hard disk, that will be mounted as a partition and behave exactly the same as any physical partition. The encrypted files are password-protected using any of your favorite encryption algorithms, such as MD5, SHA-512, Tiger, and more. In order to load the encrypted virtual partition, you need to have the program installed on your computer, or you can use the portable edition from a USB flash memory without having to install it.

The program has the ability to create and restore backups of your important volume files. The user interface is very simple and easy to use. Its interface supports hot-keys functionality and multiple languages, such as English, Spanish, French, and you can add your own translations.

One of the very useful features of this program is that it can be installed on PDA devices that run Microsoft Windows Mobile, and it's also compatible with Linux OS, and can create Linux compatible partitions. Best of all, it's free and open source.
